Thetis Lake and Hatley Park Cycle

33.0 km5 stops along the way

A fun long ride out to the west shore and back, about 33 km (around 2 h 20 min riding without stops). It heads west from the city centre through Saanich and View Royal toward Hatley Park, home of Hatley Castle at Royal Roads University, then loops back. Take your time at the stops and bring water.

Along the way: Legislative Assembly of British Columbia, L'Authentique Poutine and Burgers, Market Square, The Nest Cafe, Hatley Castle

Distances are measured along each route line and are approximate. Stops "along the way" are hand-picked places along each route.

Cycling in Victoria: comfortable by design

Victoria is one of the easier Canadian cities to explore by bike. The City of Victoria has built more than 40 km of All Ages and Abilities (AAA) bike routes, protected lanes and quiet neighbourhood bikeways meant to be comfortable for children, new riders and visitors (City of Victoria). Downtown, the 55 km Galloping Goose Regional Trail begins at the Johnson Street Bridge and runs out to Sooke on a gentle former rail grade (Wikipedia).

No ride is risk free, so ride like a local guest: wear a helmet (required by BC law), use lights after dusk, ring a bell when passing on shared paths, slow down or walk your bike in crowded areas like the Inner Harbour, and lock it up when you stop.
