Morning: Inner Harbour and museum

Start at the Inner Harbour before the crowds build, with the Fairmont Empress and the BC Parliament Buildings as your backdrop. The Royal BC Museum is steps away if you want a rainy-day-proof start; check what is open before you go.

Late morning: downtown and Chinatown

Walk up Government Street for shops and local makers, then turn toward Chinatown. Pass through the Gate of Harmonious Interest and explore Fan Tan Alley.

Lunch

Look a few blocks away from the harbour for better value. Bastion Square and the streets around Government Street have cafes, pubs and bakeries.

Afternoon: pick one

Evening: by the water

End at the Inner Harbour, or walk to Fisherman's Wharf to see the floating homes and waterfront food stalls. It is a longer walk west along the harbour, so consider a short ride.

Questions people ask

Can you see Victoria in one day?

Yes. The downtown core is compact and walkable, so one day is enough for the Inner Harbour, downtown, Chinatown and either a park or a castle.

Do I need a car to visit Victoria?

No. Most of the central sights are within walking distance of each other, and taxis, buses, bikes and e-bikes cover the rest.

What should I skip if I am short on time?

Skip Craigdarroch Castle and Fisherman's Wharf first. They sit outside the central core and need extra travel time.
